A bebop list can not be complete without this famous Thelonius Monk Blues. One of my favorite versions of this song is from the Keith Jarrett Trio album Bye Bye Blackbird. It was, recorded in 1991 as a tribute to Miles Davis, who had died two weeks earlier. It easy to detect Keith Jarrett’s influence by this Miles Davis live at Newport Jazz Festival recording. Keith Jarret’s first six bars of the solo is a direct quote of Miles’ first six bars in this version.

Listen and practice with the recording
