Groovin’ High is a bebop head loosely based on the chord progression of Whispering, composed by the legendary jazz trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie. Dizzy created a complex arrangement for ‘Groovin’ High,’ which became one of his most enduring hits. The lick, in bars 3-4 which repeats itself in other keys throughout the tune is one of the most characteristic and widely used melodic ideas jazz musicians use.
