Good Bait, composed by pianist Tadd Dameron, is based the same chord progressions of La Mer (Somewhere Beyond the Sea) and is another example of that practice by bebop composers. It was introduced in 1944 and was popular in the 1940s and 1950s. Many jazz artists went on to perform and record this song. I like this Coltrane version for the comfortable tempo it offers, which makes it an excellent choice for playing along. Notice that the piano is missing in the head, which allows students to practice filling that part, in performance mode.
